Our second orbit event “Sound System Culture – On the Radical Roots of Rave – Chapter #2” in a beautiful underground location in Friedrichshain was a gathering of people from various different backgrounds, all interested in the one topic hovering over this night´s event: Sound System and Rave Culture of the 90ies.
After everbody was full from our yummy KÜFA cuisine (vegan ginger carrot soup and chocolate brownies <3) we enjoyed Hägen Daz diverse and funky set, combining styles from Dub, Hip Hop, Breakbeat and electronic references like DnB/Jungle. Afterwards the anticipated quiz took place and guests were to answer questions about historical facts and numbers of what happend during the 90ies parties, raves, sound system and squat scene.
All the information that was needed to win the quiz could be found on our information posters displayed. These infos will be shared within this and our upcoming blog posts!
When the winner shared her massive amount of won candy necklaces, additional lollipops and glow sticks, they were also distributed and created the right atmosphere for Mila Chiral`s nostalgic, very rave-y set.
The music felt like it enabled everybody in the room to partake in time travel and took us right back to the beginning of the 90ies, where love and care were an even bigger essential part of the rave community, people danced with smiles on their faces and did not (have to) think about tomorrow.
Rave legend Por.No and talented newbie Smi were both also bringing their very own, distinctive interpretation of the 90ies to the table, leading the party to go on for many hours longer than initially planned and even Hägen Daz had the honour of playing many more tunes of his vinyl collection.
We got wonderful feedback from guests and venue crew members for the night, and can truly say that we are very proud of the fun, vibrant, ecstatic night that we put together that Thursday night!
Our next event is already in the planning and will take place on April 19th, 2019 (bicycle day!). Save the date!
Until then, have fun listening to Mila Chiral`s amazing set below and/or check out the information-poster about the origins of rave culture:
